BARBIE

BIGGER THAN BARBIE

Barbie has a long history of collaborating with fashion designers, most of whom have been white. In continuing the brand’s goal to inspire the next generation, Barbie will support future Black designers by showing up for them today.

THE BLACK LABEL

To give Black designers the recognition they deserve, Barbie will release “The Black Label”, a collection of limited edition dolls in collaboration with Black designers who have broken through and made a name for themselves in fashion.

TAKING UP SPACE ON AND OFF THE RUNWAY:

AAKS • AUTUMN ADEIGBO • CHRISTOPHER JOHN ROGERS

DURO OLOWU • GRACE WALES BONNER • HARBISON • KENNETH IZE • LAQUAN SMITH

When you purchase a doll from The Black Label, you’ll receive access to a limited edition drop, where you can purchase these ready to wear looks in your size.

DO A DOUBLE TAKE

To let the world know that Barbie is showing up for The Black Label in a big way, we’ll show up at one of the biggest events in fashion: New York Fashion Week .

We’ll put up simple ads with a launch date. Using AR, these will transform to show the real ads featuring our designers.

RECOLOR THE RUNWAY

During NYFW, our AR filter will digitally replace black outfits on the runway into designs from our collection.

Hover to see the filter in action.

SHOOT YOUR SHOT

Missed out on NYFW? You can catch us on Twitter showing love to the Black designers grinding on their own time. Designers around the country will be able to tweet @Barbie for a chance to get a custom doll fully fitted with their designs.

THE DREAM HAUS

Support doesn’t end at the runway.

So we’re creating The Dream Haus, an incubator for Black fashion designers equipped with design education, studio access, and resources.

Designers admitted into the Dream Haus not only receive an education, but throughout their fellowship they’ll work with the Barbie team to design their own pieces for the brand.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

You don’t have to be a part of The Dream Haus to get started. The Barbie Maker’s Market website allows aspiring designers of all ages to connect, learn and share their designs all year long.
